Creative Music Works presents the Denver premiere of Pale Blue, an immersive sonic journey by interdisciplinary sound artist and trumpet virtuoso Glen Whitehead, featuring Randy Bowen on drums and percussion. This groundbreaking performance fuses improvisation, environmental field recordings, and live trumpet in a meditation on our planet’s sonic landscapes and our relationship to the living world.

About Pale Blue

Pale Blue – named after the planet we inhabit – documents Whitehead’s grand quest to merge musical exploration, improvisation, and environmental immersion. Drawing from field recordings captured across Colorado, France, Greece, Hawaii, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Turkey, and Wyoming, Whitehead weaves together geophonic (earth), anthrophonic (human), and biophonic (life) soundscapes with live trumpet and electronics.

Audiences might hear the headwaters of the Rio Grande River, drafty garages in France, coyotes, cicadas, or unexpected sonic encounters from around the globe – all transformed through Whitehead’s singular musical vision. These are parables of the anthrophony: stories that take their cue from our sounding world, bringing new awareness to our living systems and how we relate to them.

What the critics are saying:

“Glen Whitehead’s Pale Blue is an auditory Masterpiece that takes you on a sonic journey around the world.”Amplified

“The genre of environmental music can too often sound generic, but Whitehead has a gift as a sound artist….in a word, he is a musical idealist who refuses to hear anything in primitive everyday noise except a perpetual, eternal song.”Fanfare
